Too hot

The heatwave of the past week hasn't ended here yet and we've not had a single drop of rain. My days have consisted of an earlyish walk with Tilly to the local park and trying to keep her off the hot pavements as much as possible. I've spent time in the garden with her with me sitting underneath the parasol above the garden table and chairs. Having heard the neighbour's little girl enjoying herself in the paddling pool I ordered a doggy pool for Tilly and went to collect that yesterday. I'm hoping she will enjoy it as she does love jumping up and getting soaked with the water from the garden hose.

Thinking it would be cooler yesterday I took her to the big park and we were just in time to see the cricketers breaking for refreshments and a couple of them telling me it was too hot for cricket. The circus is in town and thankfully these days it is an animal free circus show.

Tilly is not comfortable in this heat and unfortunately the mobile groomers are fully booked and not taking on new clients. So while I've been trying to book an appointment poor Tilly has had to wait but thankfully she will  have a good trim later this week.

I've not mentioned as well as staying indoors in this extreme heat I've had a toothache for a couple of days and thankfully discovered it was a raspberry seed stuck in my tooth but I did eventually manage to dislodge it much to my relief. I really didn't want to have to visit the dentist as that could potentially delay the six monthly infusion  I need that's been arranged for next month and that's exactly what happened last time.  Lesson learned not to enjoy my own version of Eton Mess made with raspberries, meringue and cream and kidding myself they are good for me as part of my five a day :)

  1. Poor Tilly . . . but at least she has her own personal pool and I hope she's learning to enjoy it.

Eton Mess. Oh yummy memory . . . glad you have fixed the tooth problem 😉

    1. I feel sorry for Tilly having to wear a thick fur coat in this heat, it's no wonder groomers are fully booked. Eton Mess are really yummy, I'll have to have the Mess with no raspberries in future :)

  2. Oh Tilly, hopefully you'll feel better next week, but do enjoy your pool. I've also had both raspberry & blueberry seeds stuck too & thought it was the beginning of a sore tooth. Glad you got that lot sorted. Have a good week, take care & hugs.

    1. I’ll fill Tilly’s pool for her today and hope she enjoys splashing about. Isn’t it annoying how such small seeds can cause so many problems.

  3. Sorry to hear about the toothache but I'm glad you managed to get it sorted without going to the dentist. It was much cooler here yesterday, cloudy for most of it with a fresh breeze but by later in the afternoon it was lovely and sunny again. I hope Tilly enjoys her new pool - I have a plastic shell-shaped kids pool which I could use for my two but as yet no hosepipe to fill it :(

    1. Your poor dogs being deprived of a paddle for the want of a hosepipe ( I'm only joking). There was a cool breeze in the middle of the night when I was woken at 3 a.m. by loud people in the street! Then the day just got hotter and hotter. It was no fun being so hot with toothache and just glad I was able to cure it myself.

  4. I do feel sorry for animals in this heat. Archie went to the groomers less that six weeks ago but we're already booking in him for his next appointment, I just know he feels so much better with his fur kept really short in this heat. No rain here yet either and Mick played cricket in it yesterday, they must be mad playing sport in this heat. Glad the toothache was nothing serious.

    1. I've just been to the park where a girl was hurling a ball for her dog and then her trying to coax it to it's feet when it lay down exhausted, stupid people! Tilly's two previous visits to the groomer were for wash, blow dry and comb through as they wouldn't remove the fur until she was at least six months old so it will be a huge relief for her when the thick coat comes off. We're not used to this extreme heat but I know I wouldn't be playing any kind of sport in it.

    1. It's far too hot for me but nice as long as I don't spend too much time outside in it. There is a very slight breeze today and maybe it's not quite as hot as previous days but we desperately need some rain.

  6. Bless Tilly. Although I know you'll be doing everything possible to keep her cool. X

    1. I am trying hard to keep her cool, just a shame I've had to wait for an appointment with the groomer.

  7. I'm glad you managed to sort out the tooth pain without an expensive dental visit and the impact on the infusion.

The weather is really odd at the moment. The forecast changes dramatically every day, so much so that I don't really know what to expect. At least it is cooler today.

    1. My last infusion was delayed for three months because of an extraction I didn’t know I needed as it was underneath a crown. I didn’t want to go through that again. Apparently the infusion prevents the jaw from healing.
It is slightly cooler today but it’s still hot. Yes, very odd weather as I see on the news some parts of the UK having thunderstorms. Some rain for the garden would be nice.

  8. I wish my Bichon liked water, but he'll go to any lengths to avoid it. He's normally clipped every 6 weeks but he didn't last as long as that when the heatwave arrived, despite sitting on the pouffe in front of the standing fan in the living room. With his ears flying he only needed a scarf and goggles to be a proper Biggles!

    1. Tilly adored being in the paddling pool yet my previous dog Annie hated water too. I felt so sorry for Tilly having all that thick fur in the heatwave. I can just picture your dog enjoying the fan in your living room. I love that advert for the AA, I think the dog is called Tucker or something like that, he was enjoying the fan and I think he switched it on himself :)
