Making progress

It's sunny and warm today but unfortunately the weather forecast says it's set to change later in the week and we can expect some stormy weather. I'm taking advantage while the sun shines and am now able to let Tilly off lead in the dog-friendly secure area of our park. She loves chasing the ball thrown with the ball thrower and brings it back to me. She doesn't give up the ball easily though so I have carry two tennis balls with me. Tilly runs super quick for such a small pup and certainly tires herself out.

Unfortunately the new small size harness I bought is still too big for her but I'm keeping it hoping she will grow into it soon so she still needs to wear her red extra-small size harness. I'm pretty sure she isn't going to grow into a big dog but as she's now four and a half months old I thought she'd be bigger than she is by now. We are making progress but she does pull on her lead, gets easily distracted if she sees birds or other dogs and jumps about like a fool. We saw a squirrel in the park today but it was too quick to catch Tilly's attention but I was pleased to see it and especially when I saw a baby squirrel appear as well but that was quick too. Sadly too quick for photos so some Tilly photos will have to do :)

  1. Awww, she's so cute. I do love to see dogs running free enjoying themselves. I know people who don't let their dogs off their leads, for no other reason than they're afraid they won't come back. It's all about taking the time to train them so that they do, they need to have some freedom. It's lovely here today in the sun but we keep getting downpours in between the sunny spells. We've had quite a few storms over the last few days.

    1. I've always let my dogs have an off lead run as they do need to exercise and have fun. It's a secure area and I only let her go in there as long as nobody else is around. I was pleased she brought the balls back to me to be honest. I'm sure she would run to someone else as she loves to be fussed so it's early days yet. It hasn't rained here today, fingers crossed the rain stays away a while longer.

  3. It's good that Tilly is bringing the ball back to you - there's nothing worse than throwing one then having to 'fetch' it yourself :) Love the photos, especially the first one, she looks so cute :)

    1. Sometimes she doesn't know where the ball has landed so I do have to go and assist :-)

  5. It's early days yet & think about how we deal with our kids, some learning & achieving quickly, others, slow on the uptake and all in the same family(lol). I think she is so cute. Take care & hugs to the 3 of you.

    1. She's still a puppy but she is becoming very lovable. She does have her fair share of admirers when we're out and it's good to chat. I need to cure her of pulling on the lead so a work in progress.

  7. Being confident to allow her off the lead shows progress, and she's doing well to return the ball to you. Most of all, she's such a cutie!

    1. As long as I'm sure it's safe for her then Tilly can run and play and she is doing really well.
