Our daughter and son-in-law came to visit us yesterday. They had phoned first to ask if it was alright and we said yes of course. Not having seen them for what seems like an eternity it was the tonic we needed. We really needed to have our family with us, have proper contact other
than on screen or telephone conversations. We needed this contact as I'm certain we were beginning to suffer from the
loneliness of isolation. No longer having our little
dog Annie and going on daily walks and meeting our dog walking
friends has been tough, so seeing our daughter's two greyhounds again
was wonderful. We took them for a walk to our nearby park and even
stopped to chat to a lady walking her greyhound. All
four of us wore masks even in our home and we were able to enjoy a socially distanced evening meal,
one of the benefits of having a long living / dining room. I know that visiting us was a tonic for our daughter and son-in-law too as not only am I a cancer sufferer but our son-in-law's father has cancer too, these are very tough times for our family indeed.

Verne making himself at home on the fireside rug
A closeup of Verne's ouchie. Daughter had been mopping the floor in her home when Verne charged in from the garden, slipped on the floor and injured himself with the claw's from his other leg!
This is the lovely Miss Molly.
How lovely that you've finally been able to have a visit from your family and you were able to go for a walk with the dogs - that will have given you all a much needed boost at these particularly difficult times. Poor Verne with his sore leg, I hope it gets better soon :)
ReplyDeleteIt was so lovely to see our daughter and son-in-law and enjoy their company again. It was nearly midnight when they arrived back home. Going to the park with Molly and Verne was very enjoyable. Verne always seems to be in the wars and I'm sure his poorly leg will be fine :)
DeleteHow lovely to have a visit from your daughter and son-in-law and seeing the dogs too will have been a real tonic. I can understand why they take dogs into care homes to see the residents, they can be a real pick me up.
ReplyDeleteIt was a much needed visit for all for us and we had treats for Molly and Verne so they were happy. This is the first time in most of our married life that we haven't had a dog of our own and we do miss doggy company, so it was really lovely to see them again.
DeleteIt must have been lovely seeing them & glad they can now come to see you. We can't see "anybody" for at least another couple of months. We say "hello" to people in the street when walking & talk to our neighbours from a distance. That's it till our numbers come down. I feel like we live in a leper colony. Take care, stay safe & huggles.
ReplyDeleteWe were excited to see them Susan, a long time coming. All my family live in England where the rules are different from Wales but strictly speaking we are shielding here until the 16th August. My sister lives in an area with lockdown restrictions strictly in place once again and they are not allowed to visit other people's homes. Rules are changing all the time it's hard to keep up with things. We haven't been going out and not seeing anybody has been extremely hard, I can totally understand you saying you feel like you live in a leper colony. Just do everything possible to stay safe. Take care x

It was so good to see them after being apart for so long Ann. Going for a walk to the park with the dogs was such a treat. I will let them know you are happy for us, thank you :)
DeleteIt sounds like their visit was the tonic you needed! How nice that they have 2 greyhounds! 💖
ReplyDeleteYes, it was a real tonic and lovely to see them both and the dogs again :)
DeleteIt makes me so happy to know you were able to spend this time with your daughter (and her dogs, of course) Hopefully you will get to see them again very soon. X
ReplyDeleteIt was wonderful to see them again and no doubt we will see them again soon. Daughter will be having a holiday for ten days in Germany starting next week and we'll be expecting her to bring us a present :)
