Not cooking

I haven't felt like spending much time in the kitchen just lately but I must say I seem to be enjoying my food, just simple salads or a bacon sandwich or a ready meal.. I'm still managing to secure weekly online delivery slots  and have three currently lined up. What I  do is place an order for the basics and then add to the list  nearer to the delivery time and this system is working well for us.

I fancied something entirely different this week and I must tell you how much I enjoyed this meal with a jacket potato and a corn on the cob, I'll be ordering these again for sure.

Last time I went to the garden centre a fortnight ago I bought two mint plants and they have grown so much they now need a bigger pot. I haven't any white wine vinegar in to make mint sauce so that will need adding to the online grocery order for next week's delivery. In the meantime I just touch the leaves and the smell is wonderful. I'm going to make myself a lovely cup of mint tea this afternoon, what could be simpler.

  1. I love the smell of mint but never think of growing any - your plants look so nice I might just be tempted :) Your meal sounds good, I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

    1. The mint plants were very inexpensive and have really shot up in the two weeks we've had them. Even if you don't use the leaves it's nice to just rub your finger on a leaf and savour the smell, takes me back to my childhood.
The barbecued beef was very tasty, I'll be ordering that again.

  2. My mint plant is slightly smaller than this time last week, as I took some to sprinkle on the shakshuka I cooked. I think I might need to put it in a bigger pot though. I like your planter.
I'm so glad you are getting a reliable delivery service. X

    1. The shakshuka sounds nice but I had to look up the recipe. I think our two mint plants will need a bigger planter, we bought that one especially for the mint but the garden centre do sell the same style in different sizes so will just buy another, they are rather nice planters.
I was worried about securing delivery slots but it is turning out to be alright and they aren't charging me for the delivery slots at present so I'm very happy.

  3. You sound very organized! I have a hard time figuring out what to feed my mother. Nothing appeals to her. I am looking forward to feeding my husband again, he will eat anything!💖

    1. I'm surprised my appetite is good as I have to take anti-sickness tablets at the moment, I just don't feel like cooking anything though. My hubby and I agree what we'll have for our evening meal every morning so he's not too fussy really. It's a shame your Mom isn't interested in her meals, that must be very difficult for you.

  4. You have solved your Not-Feel-Like-Cooking issue!!!! And in summer, meals become a real challenge for everyone, I think.

I too, add to my on line order, up until I place it. -smile- Actually, I keep a running list, of whatever we think we will need. Then transfer it to on line list.

Have to have a place to write down needed items, when we THINK of them! Or we forget them!!!

    1. It's too warm to be standing over a cooker I do agree with you. Salads always go down well for us but now and again I fancy something different and tasty. I keep a notebook by the side of the computer and write things down as I think of them otherwise I'd forget too. I used to go and do top-up shops during the week but now it's a strictly once a week online shop but it's working out OK. It's months since I stepped foot in a supermarket and much prefer someone else to do my shopping for me now.

  5. It's awful when you don't feel like cooking or when you are undergoing your treatments. Seems you are getting there though. I keep a shopping list in the kitchen & add to it when I'm getting low on something or when thinking of meals. Always hated grocery shopping & now more than ever. On-line over here must come to a certain amount before they will deliver & the charges are uber expensive. I'll stick to the list being pretty long before we go, except for DH picking up our milk or I will venture into our local greengrocer for fresh fruit & veg. Take care, stay safe & huggles.

    1. I had just renewed a six month "anytime" delivery plan in February and now because they are unable to offer the any time slots they are not charging me the monthly fee. I can't really complain so long as I keep checking for available delivery slots even if they are three or four weeks in advance. It's always been worth it for me to pay the monthly fee but even better now it has been waived. I'm not sure what will happen when the contract comes up for renewal again August.

  6. I bet Mick would like that, he always likes the end bits off the roast joint. I could eat mint sauce with anything, not just lamb, I love it. Also, chop the mint and put it in with new potatoes whilst they're boiling, delicious.

    1. My hubby likes mint sauce with everything too. We bought the mint plants to add to new potatoes as well, I really must remember the white wine vinegar to make my own mint sauce. I love the burnt bits of the roast beef. My hubby also likes Yorkshire Puddings on his dinner no matter what meat is on his plate.

I think it's a great idea with the delivery slots. Our daughter, Lil, does the same as it helps her during her busy work days, but she picks-up at the shop.

    1. I have never used the click and collect service even when I was able to get out, it's a great idea for busy people like Lil. If it had been available years ago I'm sure I would have used it myself.
